A hand printed linocut print inspired by and created on the Isle of Islay off the west coast of Scotland.
This print is presented either as stand alone on A5 paper (printed area 150x100) or in an ivory mount measuring 8x10 inches.
The Marsh Fritillary Butterfly is rare, but here on The Oa, on the Isle of Islay populations are healthy. Butterflies lay their eggs on Devil’s-bit-Scabious, their only food plant in late spring. Caterpillars spin webs, close to the ground in thick vegetation and can be seen from autumn onwards. This design was sketched in spring 2021, after sketching we transfer the design onto lino and carve it with a fine tool. Every piece is individually printed by hand and is therefore unique. We use vegetable oil-based inks and 300gsm Snowden Paper.
